Ethical

The November MPRE (Multi-state Professional Responsibility Exam) scores were released today. Yes, I passed. Getting my score was a pretty intense experience though! My heart rate was up, hands shaking a bit. I can only imagine what it must feel like to check whether you passed the bar.

The experience was a bit confounding because the PDF lists your score...but not whether you passed. So you're all jacked up and Adobe opens up and the document pops up...and you're like, 'Wait, did I pass or what?' You're looking for big block letters, "PASSED," y'know?

Passing score in CA is 79. (Next year it will be 86.)

What's still not clear to me, in spite of the multiple times I've read the documentation, is whether you've passed the MPRE for California's purposes based on California's standard at the time of the exam (79 for the November) or at the time of application for admission (which will be 86.) I don't find this, this, or this persuasive either way, though I recognize that conventional wisdom is that passing is based on minimum score at the time of the test administration -- and hence the rush to take it in November.

(Fortunately, it doesn't impact me, but I did worry about it until I got my score today.)

The best is when you don't realize that you have indeed passed and decide to take it again. That didn't happen to me, but I have a friend who did just that.

Greg - yep, I just followed the crowd on that one. Well done on your >86 score. ;-)

Beanie - that's unreal. All due respect to your "friend" (::wink::), but perhaps s/he deserved to take it again!!

Kidding! I wouldn't wish that on anyone...

86%?? That means at a minimum you are 26% more ethical than the worst practicing Canadian lawyer.

I'm a last year (I've actually lost count of how long I've been in) law student. I'm just cruising through finding blogs that help me realize I'm not alone in this!!! :)

I hated that feeling...I kept scrolling up and down the page looking for something that said yes I passed or no I'm an idiot. I was shaking horribly...and then bawling, I fell into the idiot category and will be retaking the good ol' MPRE again in August. Ugh...just think I get to do all that over again. Lucky me.
